I am so glad to be part of this as a voice actor. this was fun, great work from everyone. just be sure to have the Cronenburger after the show okay?

DannyGoodShirt responds:

You did great work. Thanks for being a part of it

is that saxton hale?

Nekidcoboy responds:

no, it's me

nice work. i can use this for studying action more effectively

not bad. here is some criticisms though that are more helpful

The good:
- the voice direction and pretty good quality.
- you established early that is IS inspired by Fooly Cooly and do have the down to earth, the human element and the wacky absurdism.
- established the ideas of the story about environmentalism and also how people can also help themselves front bad relations to make things better between the characters.
- good usage of the random humor, for the time frame
-excellent choice of music

what to improve on:

- Style: if you want to make a world inspired by it, you need to study closely to the og style. a good example of adapting flcl style would be from El-Cid and his toon BONK or look at Avatar the Last Airbender as they confirmed that FlCL did help with their style for the show

- Music needs to be toned down from time to time and the voices need to be a bit lower.

- the only voice i think needs work is Michelle, she sounds good, but don't convey as much as i though she would

- Timing: Fooly Cooly have moments where they just focus on the world and let the atmosphere take place, those quiet moments play an integral part for fooly cooly, like when mamimi and naota talk about his brother or why mamimi usually is depressed and there is little diologue, the actions, settings and music play it well, sometimes just having silence (as that speaks the most volumes) . it doesnt drag out, but emphasizes onto the scene

- timing again: there are times that it moves a bit too quickly/rushed like with the meeting with michelle and how she made a 180 with her actions, like we could slow it down and emphasis on her actions. it does help with first impressions and also shows what kind of person they are without rushing it.

the backgrounds could DEFINITELY use some work. i do like the fact you are using water color to establish the backgrounds, it sadly looks.... well.... like a kid made it for mom after arts and crafts and hung onto the fridge to be later forgotten in about 2 weeks and tossed out... focus on the formes and perspective shots so it follows more naturally with the animation. the background fore ground and characters need to agree otherwise that look too out of place.

- Minty is a good character and her quirkiness is great, revealing she is an alien with would be in her character by what i have seen. but she also has the timing issue as well. as well as some other elements just say she is trying to be Haruko with some of the mannerisms. (this is a nitpick) but where did she get that vehicle? there was nothing there before, so if the magic sword can change itself to fit what Minty wants, then that would make more since.

what i dont like

dont be afraid to go full weird/absurd at times. or have slow grounded moments.

the style of toon doesnt mesh well with a fooly cooly inspired world. i know you are being your own thing, but when you establish ( description box ) Yes, i already see people say this is a lot like FLCL and i just wanna say, yes it's supposed to be like that, kind of. I wanted this to be a spiritual successor of it, like how Yooka Laylee is to Banjo and Kazooie.

-you are setting a high bar. The reason why Yooka-Laylee is alright as opposed to AMAZING is because the core philosiphy for Banjo got lost and mixed with the levels designs and item placements (those things though small DO add to the adventure part of a game) and this DOES feel like what Yooka-Laylee is to Banjo-Kazooie. but it is not as good as you think it is (though the game is not bad by any stretch, but it IS lacking in many elements to feel like a banjo game)

in conclusion:

so by making something that is a spiritual successor to FLCL even down to the name BKNK being close to the idea, you reach some of the parts that made the og FLCL work by you are missing the other gears that helps the clock tick and move.

for what is it, its not bad. if you are only going for 6 episodes yet half the time then Fooly Cooly, use that to establish more of the series and understand how that world and translate to yours without copy-pasting the world

i like where is is going, but you just need to learn and understand what makes fooly cooly.

also, your artstyle outside of this is fine for toons (needs cleaning though) but lacks cohesion and consistency... try using the line tool, it might help out :)

zachdewd responds:

THank you for your critique, i will put it into consideration.
